About MeteorIndex
Ben Williams
Creator of MeteorIndex
Ben Williams created MeteorIndex to make space-related datasets more approachable for curious readers on Earth. He enjoys turning scientific records into understandable reference tools that help people explore meteorites, fireballs, and how our planet interacts with material from space.
Our Mission
MeteorIndex exists to make meteorite and fireball data accessible, understandable, and useful for anyone curious about space science. We organize publicly available records from NASA and CNEOS into a clean, searchable format so that students, researchers, educators, and space enthusiasts can explore data that would otherwise remain buried in raw government datasets.
What We Do
We take raw data from NASA's Meteorite Landings dataset and the Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) Fireball database, then organize it into detailed, searchable profiles. Each meteorite and fireball event gets its own page with classification details, geographic coordinates, maps, mass comparisons, and contextual information that helps visitors understand what they're looking at.
Why It Matters
Meteorite and fireball data are some of the most fascinating publicly available scientific records, but they're often locked away in formats that aren't easy to explore. MeteorIndex bridges the gap between raw datasets and public curiosity, making it possible for anyone to search, browse, and learn from records that span centuries of meteorite falls and modern fireball observations.
Explore the Data
- Browse Meteorites — Search and filter 45641+ recorded meteorite landings
- Browse Fireballs — Explore 1052+ fireball events detected by sensors worldwide
- Statistics — View aggregate data across all records
